While the styles mentioned here are the main focus at AKMA, there are other influences from other styles incorporated into the system. These influences include Judo, Wing Chun, Shuri-Te Bu-Jutsu, Taboada Balintawak, Tai Chi, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Sensei Phillips has years of experience in these styles and continues to practice them individually.
Another major influence at AKMA is practical academic anatomy and kineseology.
While TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and 5 elelement theory is prevelent throughout the system in terms of Kyusho Jitsu (which uses the same meridians and pressure points used in accupuncture), we use western medical descriptive and directional anatomical terms to be as precise and universal in our language as possible.
Students will learn the basic anatomy and kineseology related to their martial arts practice at each level. At the higher levels, when their anatomical knowldge is sufficient, students begin to incorporate western healing techniques like soft tissue manipulation (similar to massage), myofascial cupping, and more.
Another style taught at AKMA, lead by Coach Katie Phillips.
Classes in FMA Stick Boxing focus on Taboada Balintawak Arnis Cuentada content and curriculum.
